Community Based Instruction

We had a great CBI to IHOP on the third Friday of March. Every child selected and ordered their own meal. Every child used good restaurant manners. We enjoyed each other's company and had a great meal. On the first Friday of March, we went to the bowling alley. The children had a wonderful time and were good team players. Everyone gave cheers and applause for each other. We had a few strikes and a few spares and a few gutter balls, but it was great fun. Every child inserted coins and selected a snack from the machine and purchased a drink. Every student looks forward to CBI trips.

PBS

We are a PBS school. PBS is Positive Behavior Support. It is an approach for teaching children appropriate behavior and providing the supports necessary to sustain that behavior. This system is implemented by the entire staff for all children. Children can earn a bird buck when they are being respectful, responsible, and when they are ready in the hallways and in the cafeteria. This system is expected to improve school climate, academic achievement, and social competence. With bird bucks, the children may buy charms for a chain that they received when PBS was first implemented. Below is the matrix for PBS in the cafeteria and the hallways.

The children can earn bird bucks in the classroom when they are respectful. They should follow teacher directions, be kind to their classmates, and work quietly. The children earn bird bucks in the classroom when they are responsible. They should complete their assignments and put forth their best effort. They earn bird bucks in the classroom when they are ready to learn. They must be ready with supplies, remain in their own space, and keep their desk organized. Some children are earning bird bucks on their bus, as well. On the bus, they are respectful when they follow the bus drivers’ directions, are kind to your bus mates, and talk quietly on the bus. They are responsible when they remain in your seat and keep your seatbelt buckled. They are ready when they are on time for the bus and when they get on and off the bus promptly and safely.

Science Fair Project

Room 12's science fair project is called "Which surface creates the smallest bounce?" The students predicted that a tennis ball would have the least amount of bounce when it was dropped to the ground in the grass. After dropping a ball from a meter stick, they found that their prediction was correct. The students measured the bouncing of a tennis ball onto a tile floor, a sidewalk, a rug, and the ground. You can see their science fair project here at school on Thursday evening from 5:30 to 7:00.

A Visit From The Dentist

Today, Dr. Mullin and Mr. Dragon talked to us about how to take care of our teeth and how to keep healthy teeth. We learned to brush our teeth twice a day, to floss our teeth once a day, and to eat healthy foods.
